The I terminal stands for Ignition. The purpose of it to supply 12 volts to the coil during CRANKING the starter bypassing the ignition switch which has a resistance wire running from the switch to the + terminal of the coil. There should NOT be power at the I terminal when the engine is running.
Negative may be just as bad. Is this common. All I can figure is no where for moisture to go in a sealed battery box. In 40+ years of working on cars I have never seen such junk as this. I am just as surprised that there was no real grease or preventative on the terminals. It wouldn't be so bad had it not ate up the clamp.

All seemed to go well. The battery took a full charge and tested out well with my load tester. So I start putting the battery back in the truck.
